'Roughly 10% of all sheep are gay': When gay rams are deemed ewe-sless, one German farmer saves the gay flock and turns their wool into fluffy fashion

If there's one thing we love more than people saving animals who have done nothing wrong, it's people doing it while advocating for LGBTQ rights. So it's only natural that when we've heard a rumor about a German farmer saving gay sheep, we had to take a closer look. And, oh girl, it didn't disappoint.

First of all, we learned that about 10% of sheep are gay. We've heard of gay bears, even gay otters - so now we have to add gay sheep into the mix. Truly, you learn something new every day. But the thing is, gay sheep aren't useful for the farmers raising them. It means that in regular farms, the farmers make them Sashay, Away. But one German farmer was like "Heck, no! (or maybe "Verdammt, nein!", as far as Google Translate claims). Shantay, You Stay". He actually opened a farm that's more of a gay club for these homorams. And to support this endeavor? He makes high fluffy fashion from their wool. This guarantees - they wool survive.

To be honest, we all want to fly to Germany now just so we can hang out with these absolute icons. Who knew we'd be flocking towards 2026 with an undying love of sheep? Yeah, we neither.

    Michael was able to make the farmers understand that this is a serious project ... But he also lost some business partners. In 62 countries, homosexuality is punishable by death, meaning that people around the world are still killed for not conforming to societal expectations.

When you get a real-life insight like that, it spreads pretty quickly in our agency," explains Schakir Islamow, one of the creatives who brought the project to life.

    Today, gay rams from all across the country live on Stücke's farm, and their wool is turned into yarn in a laborious process. This yarn is sold to other companies and used to create Rainbow Wool products, including hats, shoelaces and patches, which are available for purchase on the initiative's website.

    But on a serious note - we don't have to get to a situation where people ask themselves: “Is this animal useful for me?” Sure, there are working animals in any farm, and many other places, but animals shouldn't be judged by their usefulness to certain human activities. So yes, these gay rams might not produce the next generation of sheep, as their original farmers had hoped - but it doesn't mean we should send them over the rainbow bridge. Because they literally bring the rainbow right here - and that is more than enough. The stunning fashion is just an adorable added bonus.

    tulle_witch Our rams are gay too. they miss each other when we seperate them to service the flocks, and whenever we put the crayon on af they're working the same flock they will all be covered in crayon marks before the girls even get a smudge. Takes them about a week or so to tolerate the ewes again lol
